“It is with great pleasure that I share with you my experience with “Your Business Angels” and “Fresh Numbers.”

My name is Ingrid, I run a steel fabrication workshop in the Blue Mountains. My husband, Syd and I were struggling for several years. Syd was browsing on the web one day in 2007 and came upon YBA website. We met in the city office with Gavin Waring & the team to ask for some much needed help. At the time it was daunting as so many things needed improvement. Looking back now at the things we have changed in our business it is easy to see that it was many little things, not just one factor. Changes are always needed when something is not working out but to actually put this in practice is a mammoth job. Where do you start, when do you have time. It is so easy to put off what we should really do now.

After filing unopened mail from the ATO for months on end, I finally took a deep breath and opened an envelope at random. To my shock and horror, I read a letter of demand for tens of thousands of dollars that my husband and I apparently owed for a Company we had started years before. After not making money from that venture we had also stopped operating the Company to pursue ‘normal’ PAYE jobs as we had the usual expenses of a household – a large mortgage and household bills.

After regaining my composure I tried to call our old Company Tax Accountant – but she never returned my calls. A few sleepless nights later I was listening to 2UE and heard an ad for ‘Your Business Angels’. Desperate, I called them the next morning and briefly explained the situation. I accepted all responsibility for my naive and stupid action of ignoring important mail from the ATO, but they were still sympathetic. They organised a meeting a couple of days later, and immediately mapped out my options. They didn’t sugar-coat anything, and spelled out our circumstances in simple to understand language. It was black and white – I had two options, and it was obvious the most economical option was to liquidate the company.

All through the process Your Business Angels were hugely supportive and matter-of-fact. They made it clear that I had a responsibility to supply them with requested information in a timely manner, as time was of the essence. And on the odd occasion where I slackened in this area, they were quick to call or email me.

In due course, they did as they promised, and my husband and I are now tax-problem free. At one point, early in the process, we feared losing our house – not to mention the impact that would have had on our marriage. Now, a few months later, I am so grateful to YBA for their knowledge, professionalism and compassionate leadership during one of the worst experiences of my life. They really are Business Angels in disguise!
